subject: Green Creative Wedding Invitations [print this page]

Why can't creative wedding invitations be green invitations? By green, of course, we mean eco-friendly. It's never so easy to find environmentally-friendly materials that can be rendered into sophisticated, elegant wedding invites. This means decreasing the tons of virgin paper being processed worldwide. Moreover, it means using paper that only undergoes a chlorine-free processing.

Consider the startling fact that one ton of recycled paper saves approximately 4,000 kilowatts of energy. That's enough power an average home for about six months! That one ton saves approximately 18 trees in the wild, about 3 cubic yards of landfill space and about 60 pounds of pollution from the atmosphere. All you wanted to do was design some eco-friendly, creative wedding invitations and you ended up saving the planet.

Even as you're sifting through reams of environmentally-friendly invitations or card stock, you should keep a few things in mind. Look for paper that possesses high levels of Post Consumer Content -- the more the better, like 100%. Also, look to see if the paper or card has been certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC). This verifies whether or not the paper fibers were harvested responsibly. If you see the acronym, PCF, then you can be sure the paper was "Processed Chlorine Free."

While a great many boutiques and card manufacturers promise they use recycled or green-friendly fibers, it never hurts to check for yourself. Even the smallest boutique will have in excess of 100 brands in stock. Even the most creative wedding invitations have to start somewhere -- and the best place, of course, is with tree-free stock. Don't restrict your quest for eco-friendly paper to the cards themselves. Be sure you check the envelopes and correspondence cards as well.

Is your wedding just around the corner? Well, then, get a move on! If you have six months or more, don't fritter away the time you have. Before you know it, you'll be scurrying about, trying to tie up all the loose ends. And be assured: there will be a lot of loose ends. Find the creative wedding invites you've been craving, be sure they're made of 100% recycled paper, and start enjoying your journey towards wedded bliss!
