subject: Scholarship Money Is Available For Women [print this page]

Many women wrongly assume that scholarships are not available for single mothers or that the ones that are available are hard to get. This is hardly true. In fact, more and more funds are becoming available for single mothers who want to go back to school and finish or get their college degree.

There are scholarships readily available for single mothers that offer up to $10,000 in funds to pay for college tuition, books, fees, and other expenses. Many local and state organizations provide money because they recognize that bettering the lives of women in the community will better the community as a whole. Additionally, some corporations offer scholarships to family members of their employees because they want to foster that company loyalty.

Scholarships make it available for single mothers to go back to school and become educated and trained in a variety of fields. Current trends have shown that most single mothers are going back and receiving degrees to work in the fields of psychology, education, and business. These women are better prepared to live their lives and support their families.

Grants are a final option for single mothers to pay for college. This money is issued by the government and provides women with funding that does not have to be repaid. Grant money generally goes to women who show the greatest financial need and qualify under hardship conditions. Most single mothers will qualify for some type of grant.

After that, you can do a simple internet search to find additional resources. It never hurts to apply for any scholarship that you think you might qualify for. After all, the worst they can do is deny your application, and you are no worse off than you started. And who knows, you may receive extra funding for your college education!
