subject: Graduation Party Food [print this page]

The graduation party food is not the most important thing about your party. However it can spoil a party if you serve food your guests dont like and perhaps just a badly you have good food but just not enough of it. There are lots of great suggestions on what is right for a graduation party and roughly how much food you should serve. The food should clearly be chosen to suit the majority of guests with something available for all guests to eat. Being the perfect hosts is not easy but having great graduation party food would seem like one key element.

One of the harder parts of any party is to think through just how much food to provide and also the variety of food that is required. Starting with your guest list, you will know how have been invited. That list will already include acceptances and also those you know will attend. Although it can be tricky perhaps you can take a shot at predicting how many will come. Perhaps it is easier just to assume they will all come. Only you know your potential guests. Certainly for a small party you should assume they will all come. Rather than be concerned about having extra food you might like to take comfort in having enough food. The task then is to arrange containers for guests who may like to take their favorite food home. Have plenty of drinks and water too. Again you can estimate the number of bottles and cans each person will consume.

Perhaps it is a personal thing but I am always concerned with food safety and that of the guests. I make sure everything to do with food is totally clean. I like all hot food to be kept hot and served at the right temperature. I also like chilled food to stay that way. A local food standards agency could help you with how to keep your food safe if you need any help. Also if there is hot or freezing food then the containers need to be kept safe from particularly young children. You dont want any accidents. I have seen baking hot food kept on unstable table, not a good idea.

The choices of graduation party food are almost endless. There are also a lot of really brilliant touches that will make the buffet and the other food excellent. Clearly kindergarten kids will only eat food they like and they may not eat that much. Simple food like bowls of grapes, boxes of raisins, cheese, sandwiches, potato chips and a candy bar may be just right with water and fruit juice to drink. For High School graduates there is a temptation to serve burgers, hot dogs, nachos and pizza. If you do, you can make gourmet versions with lots of extra flavors and ingredients guests will love. You only really need 5 or 6 main dishes and 2 or 3 desserts. If your guests are vegetarian or like organic food then you can find recipes for that.

I use the rough tips here. However we once had a graduation party where a number of our farming neighbors attended. They ate more food than I thought was possible. We had to have a huge pizza delivery to make sure there was enough food. I hope you enjoy creating you own graduation party food.
