Have Views Of Global Warming Changed Over The Years?

The angles and views and beliefs of big topics always change dramatically if theyre around for long enough and global warming is no different, in fact its probably the best example of something topical that has divided opinion in recent years. Global warming started to be talked about it scientific and environmental circles in the mid 20th Century so the topic has been on lips for around 60 years. The subject has gathered significant momentum in the last 15 years and has been something that is taught seriously about in schools (in other words not in passing) for the last five years.

Not only have attitudes changed with each decade that has passed but science and technology have moved on apace and they continue to do so, making it impossible to deny that climate change is happening and increasingly difficult to argue that its not at least in part down to human behaviour and activity. Its become en vogue to question historical and scientific facts and this is down to a combination of social awareness and not believing everything were told by the experts and the rapidity of the development of research and archaeological techniques at our disposal.

Global warming has not escaped this fashion and it divides expert opinion, leaving the general public at the mercy of the more convincing orator, whether that is Greenpeace of the Government. We can of course do our own research but were limited by whats been published and by whom and so were unlikely to be able to resist being swayed by something. Having said that, theres no denying that we should be changing our habits for the good of the planet, whether its causing the earths surface to heat up and the polar ice caps to melt or not. We live in a consumerist society which makes it difficult to say no to material things when were offered them and to get out of the habits of leaving lights switched on when were not in the room, turning the heating up when we could put on a jumper instead and leaving televisions and mains plug sockets switched on or on standby.

At first global warming was simply identified as something to keep an eye on and be researched and investigated, it quickly became a race against time and now its a constant debate among leaders, politicians, scientists, influential green movements such as Greenpeace and the general public on whether its naturally occurring or caused by human activity and the use of unsustainable energy sources. There are a number of global warming facts out there that cannot be disputed and the effects of global warming are evident but the cause is what remains up for discussion.
