subject: An Appreciation For Marketing An Mlm As A Developing Business [print this page]

Building a Thriving MLM Business in a Difficult Economy The current global economic recession has made it extremely difficult for businesses large and small. Experts will be analyzing and theorizing about the causes, contributing factors and responses for decades to come. What is known is that customers have had to make difficult decisions drastically altered their spending patterns in what may be a permanent change. Advertising in the normal fashion is rapidly losing influence, which is why many families and individuals are showing an increasing interest in MLM and home business opportunities.

When times get tough populations react by tightening their belts, and today we see Americans reverting to a nearly survival strategy when it comes to purchasing decisions. Consumerism is fading as families become exceedingly selective of who they will do business with, and what they will buy. The electronic media are still available, but what is purchased is largely the result of the consumer already knowing the product or company.

Traditional businesses emphasize growth and market penetration, methods that allow for faster and efficient transactions are favored over cumbersome approaches. What is lost is the connection between the individuals who represent corporations that make things or produce services and those who partake of them. When the market becomes uncomfortable with big enterprise, this standoffish approach feeds the skepticism. Our natural instincts tell us to have more faith in people and as a result, people are flocking toward Multilevel Marketing, or MLM, and other home business opportunities.

We will not have the answers we desperately want in order to make sense of this latest economic crisis for some time, it is the consumers that ultimately make commerce work. The American dream has long been connected to home ownership, and discovering that the financial industry was manipulating the market for its advantage at our great risk has made trust and integrity a prime component of our valuations in business dealings of every nature. It is for this reason that many seek home business opportunities, as it is more comfortable to do business with those we know and trust.

While the search for the individual or group we should blame will likely unveil a community of culpable groups, it is generally believed that the precipitated events stemmed from the shaky financial moves in the housing market. Banks sought ever greater profits by making loans easier to come by, and when individuals who normally would not qualify for loans get them, there is a greater risk of default. When that began to happen, the financial death spiral began, what we learned is trust and integrity can succumb to the pursuit of the dollar.

The practical application of this knowledge is that the fancy advertising campaigns; slick digital presentations no longer have the impact they once did. Our assessment of what we should buy and from whom has shifted to a more grounded philosophy built on belief. This has reawakened the notion of selling things through the use of a living sales force. This tried and true method of having trained and empathetic individuals who believe in their product or service act as the means for its sales and service is more powerful now than it has been in years. At the core, this is the essence of every MLM company.

A MLM business organization which is comprised of cascading levels of individuals who actually know each other and work together in the presentation of product or service to market is a strong organizational model. It facilitates the building of trust through the many interpersonal facets of human interaction at a real every day level. Some businesses recognize the draw of real contact with people and we see it in advertisements focusing on the customers ability to talk to a person on the phone. Multilevel marketing allows for the next step, face to face communication that fosters trust.

In this dire economy, developing and growing a business with human contact at its core is a winning strategy. While the traditional method of product introduction via advertising is now received with great skepticism, the person to person approach appeals to our innate feelings of trust from one to another as long as each level maintains a positive, even nurturing relationship with the next. As our economy continues to struggle, MLM opportunities will continue to thrive as many individuals seek opportunities to earn additional income; and many will build great businesses in the process.
