subject: Great Wedding Headdress Choices [print this page]

On your wedding day you will find that every detail of your whole ensemble is important. This includes your hairstyle and the wedding headdress that will accompany your attire.

Your choice of wedding gown will influence what wedding headdress you choose. There are brides that wish to keep things simple and plain rather than lavish and flashy. It's your day, so it is your choice.

You have the option of spending a few hundred dollars, make one for yourself or spend thousands of dollars for a very overstated headdress full of jewelry.

Bonnet Headdress: Medieval Style

Splendidly adorned, you will have the aire of a princess with one of these seated upon your head. When you are wearing a more elegant gown, this is a great complementary accessory. This type is like a small bonnet that leans towards the crown of your head with a veil flowing forth. Many are available with pearls and/or sequins.

Hats

These will range from a perky little cocktail number to a very floppy brimmed hat.

The smaller hat will go great with a short net veil that leaves the face uncovered a tad or provides a longer fingertip type veil attached at the backside.

Larger hats can offer longer veils attached at the back. Most brides wish not to have their facial features covered, so they allow for veils that trail behind them. This is the more common method of accessorizing with a veil.

In outdoor wedding the larger, floppier hats are a common sight. These can be found trimmed with ribbon, flowers, or ivy and go quite lovely with the outdoor faire.

Combs and Barrettes

If you have shorter hair then a comb may be the best choice for you. You even have the option of adorning a light veil that trails out the back while attached to the comb.

If your hairstyle is upswept you can add in some flowers, ribbons and gemstones with your hair comb. Make sure you plan ahead with your veil and comb so that your hairstyle can remain well groomed after the removal of the wedding gown for the reception.

The barrette is also a practical choice for those with short or medium length hair. These can be decorated with pearls, beads, lace, ribbons and many other attractive additions. For an adoring little look, try having some ribbons trail off from the barrette.

Halo Headdress

The circlet, or halo headdress has been seen on brides for hundreds of years. In its earlier inception these would be worn with flowers intertwined.

Presently a bride that wears a halo usually has a shoulder length veil to accompany the attire, trailing from the back and perhaps no veil. Any hairstyle goes with this choice, although most brides that wear a halo wear their hair down.

The halo can be a wreath created from different elements such as flowers, ribbons, gemstones, or seed pearls, just to name a few. The veil could even match to include sequins, pearls or trailing ribbons.

Tiaras and Crowns

For a charming royal feel or a sophisticated country club style wedding a tiara or crown are traditional headdress choices for the wedding day. It is easy to attach a veil of any length.

It will be your decision, of course, when it is time to select the perfect wedding headdress so that you will feel comfortable in something that will complement your gown.

Sometimes it is best to select the wedding headdress from the same location you purchase the gown to assure a perfect match. If you don't then take the wedding dress with you as you shop for your headdress so you can compare colors and styles for a match.
