subject: The Causes of Delays In Paying Out Tax Rebates [print this page]

Whenever people think tax returns deadline, their minds are usually filled with the possible penalties that they are likely to receive from the revenue commission. However when it comes to asking for tax refunds, many people hearts are usually filled with the fear of delays, excuses, and arguments from the same revenue commission. However, this should actually not be so because the commission is not really doing you any favors. So, what are some of the reasons that cause these hurdles?

Late Filling of Returns

On of the reasons why the delays are always experienced is because of the late filing of the returns. When people file returns late, they should not really expect the refunds to be done fast. The reason for this is that during the last days of filing the returns, there is usually a very high level of activity. This means that they will first concentrate on meeting the needs of those people who filled the returns on the last days before the deadline. Once they are through with this group (which usually takes long,) they can then start following up those people who filed the returns past the due dates, look into the penalties that they will be required to pay before they start looking into any of the refunds that the commission may be owing the tax payer.

Poor Documentation

One thing that you need to know about the process of applying for a tax rebate is that you will need to provide as much proof as possible that indeed this is money owed to you and which needs to be paid back. It does not really matter how "obvious" it seems to you that you should have the money refunded to you. For this reason, if you would like to have your rebate claim processed fast, you should make sure that you have all the documents that you will need with you before making the claim.

Long Delays In Asking For The Refund

One thing that you need to know is that the longer you take without asking for your refund, the longer it will take for you to receive your money once you have made your claim. Regardless of how much efficiency you are expecting from the tax office, you really cannot expect them to act fast on your claim if at all you are making a claim for money that they have owed you for six years. This means that you should learn to always make your claim immediately you come to realize that you are being owed some money.
