He made up his mind to find a solution to the problem and that particular decision on his part led to the invention of what is now called the zip code.
In 1944, Mr. Robert Moon submitted a proposal on the zip code to the United States post office department. He was an employee of the postal agency then. He was actually working as the postal inspector at this time.
It was not until 1963 that the postal agency in the United States finally made up its mind to accept the zip code system that Mr. Robert Moon presented. There were little adjustments that were made to the zip code system before it was finally announced as the new system for sending mails all through the United States.
The actual fact is that Mr. Robert Moon was only responsible for coming up with the first three digits of the zip code. Because of this, he can only claim credit on these three digits. The three digits are referred to as sectional centre facility, which can be abbreviated to CSF. Some may also decide to call it "sec center".
With the three digits invented by Mr. Robert Moon, mails could be sorted to the different post offices within a particular region or city from where they are taken to other smaller towns all over the country. It is actually the last two digits that had more direct link with the particular city where the mail is intended.
