subject: Comparing Some Of The Hottest Weight Loss Diets [print this page]

If losing weight is on your agenda for the coming year, you're not alone! Millions of Americans make the commitment to get rid of unwanted fat, yet relatively few succeed. The reasons for this phenomenon are many: pounds don't melt away fast enough, constant feelings of hunger, inability to stick with a regimen, and-yes-even the irresistible lure of chocolate! Yet, there are those who really do lose weight and keep it off long-term. How did they do it? Here is a quick comparison of some of the hottest weight loss diets out there.

The Atkins Diet

Developed by Dr. Robert Atkins in the 1970's, this diet has enjoyed on and off popularity over the last 30 years. It is controversial since the food requirements of the diet make it likely that participants will eat a higher percentage of fat than most health agencies recommend. It involves cutting out virtually all carbohydrates from the menu, and is therefore too difficult for many people to follow. Those that stick with it religiously, however, have found success and even enjoy better health.

Jenny Craig and NutriSystem

Both of these programs rely on the use of prepackaged frozen meals that focus on portion control and behavior modification. They have become wildly popular in recent years due to their endorsements by high-profile celebrities who have found success on these programs. Although both of these programs are sound both nutritionally and in principle, they are cost-prohibitive for many. There are membership fees in order to participate in the personal support portion of the programs, and additionally, food costs will average about 100 dollars a week!

HCG Diet

Many dieters are seeking HCG information to see if following a hormone supplement-based diet is right for them. HCG is a natural hormone/protein-based substance that helps the body burn more fat during a low calorie diet rather than lean muscle tissue. The weight loss benefits are fast, which are great incentives to stay with it, and the HCG helps keep "the hungries" down. In fact, it is not unusual for dedicated HCG participants to lose 20-30 pounds in a single month. In addition, HCG will reset a dieter's hypothalamus to more appropriate levels to help maintain the weight loss. If dieters choose to take a daily HCG injection, the cost can run about 700 dollars; however, taking HCG drops under the tongue will cost only about 85 dollars.

If losing weight is high on your list of priorities, make sure to study out several different diet plans including the popular ones above before choosing one. Success only comes with a total commitment, and the results are well worth the effort.
