subject: Fluoride Treatment for Scabies [print this page]

Scabies can be an embarrassing skin condition for many. The disease can cause a lot of discomfort to the patient and it takes a few weeks before you can actually diagnose the condition. Scabies is caused due to the presence of underlying parasites known as mites. In severe form of scabies, there are thousands of mites beneath the surface of the skin. In such cases, there is an infestation on the scalp and the face as well.

In the recent times, it has been observed that soaking your head in warm water for about five minutes at a time would help in alleviating the symptoms of scabies. Frequent hot water baths would leave you itch-free; however it wouldn't eliminate these mites. Hot water baths would immobilize these mites and hence they cannot crawl to the other parts of body. You can also dunk your face or wipe it with hot cloths at regular intervals. Recently, it has also been observed that fluoride treatments can successfully eliminate these mites.

Typically fluoride is a type of poison which is used to kill roaches. This would instantly kill these mites, but since fluoride is another poison, it shouldn't be used much. You can apply it on the affected areas with the help of cotton. Some people may perhaps be allergic to fluoride; therefore it would be suggestive to approach a medical practitioner before using such treatments. Be aware of the symptoms of scabies and it would be best to seek early medical attention.
