Kerala, "The Gods Own Country" is one of the most popular tourist destinations in India. The Tourists are mainly attracted here because of the climate, landscape, greenery etc. We can now see some of the Very famous tourist places in Thiruvananthapuram. The place is known for the famous "Sri Padmanabhaswamy Temple"which is a Hindu Temple of Lord Vishnu. Here the lord is in "Anantha Shayanam"(reclining posture on Anantha, the serpant). Because of this the place is also known as "Ananthapuri".

Kovalam is a beach town on the Arabian Sea in Kerala, a state in south India. It is located around 13 km from downtown Thiruvananthapuram (Trivandrum). There are a large number of beach resorts in and around Kovalam. The Proposed International Trans shipment Terminal at Vizhinjam is also close to Kovalam. Kovalam was among the most prominent tourist spots in India during the hippy era. It still has a high status among tourists, who arrive mostly from Europe and Israel.

Akkulam is a perfect retreat for the city dwellers of Thiruvananthapuram. Akkulam is a backwater tourism center just ten kilometer from Thampanoor ""the heart center of Thiruvananthapuram city. Akkulam backwater is an extension of the well known Veli Lake. All sorts of boats are available for the entertainment of the tourists at very affordable rates. Speed boats, pedal boats row boats, all very colorful and light even children can handle them with ease. There is a fort and a palace in this place which are worth seeing. The palace is rich in wood carvings of the old age. There are even house boats for overnight stay on the idyllic scenery of the backwaters.

Veli Lake near Thiruvananthapuram is a favorite haunt of local tourists. The place is blessed with a calm serene atmosphere. The atmosphere gets livened up with the children, family groups and "love-birds". Children"s park, floating bridge to the island, a newly made floating restaurant, boating, swimming and water-sports opportunities make Veli Lake a lively place in Thiruvananthapuram tourism map.


Shanghumugham Beach lies about 8 km away, on the Western part of Thiruvananthapuram city. The huge sculpture of a 'Nymph' (Jalakanyaka) made by the famous sculptor Sri Kanai Kunjuraman is a great attraction. Fishing is an attractive scene in Shanghumugham Beach.

Aruvikkara dam is situated 16kms north of Thiruvananthapuram. It is gifted with lavish scenic beauty and this international renowned beach resort has been a favourite haunt for tourists since 1930's. On the banks of the river, an ancient temple is situated which isdedicated to Durga.

Poovar is 29 km from the city. It was a trading centre in early days and one of the ancient ports of the district. It is said that the legendary Jesuit Missionary, St. Francis Xavier, visited the place in the 16th century. One can reach here by bus from Trivandrum.There are many resorts in poovar.
