subject: Losing Weight In Four Easy Steps [print this page]

The most effective way to derail your weight loss goals is emotional eating. Here are four tips to help you fight emotional eating and have a healthy body.

Emotional eating can be easily stopped by brushing your teeth regularly. Brushing teeth not only prevents tooth decay and other dental problems; it also prevents you from eating too much. It will be a waste if you mess up your freshly brushed teeth. Besides, spearmint, the toothpaste flavor, and chocolate, one of the most fattening foods, do not go well. So you will have a good motivation not to eat after brushing. Moreover, it will take a lot of work, time, and toothpaste if you brush, eat, and brush again in just an hour.

Dedication to your goals is the next. When you are tempted to eat sweets, remind yourself of your goals and your reason for choosing them. Are you trying to impress your friends or spouse? Is it for health reasons or simply to satisfy yourself and increase your self esteem? Every time the temptation is too irresistible, force yourself to remember your reasons for losing weight. Reminding yourself of your reasons will also make you stop and think if it is worth spoiling your diet with just a moment with a candy bar. When you eat even a bite of a yummy and calorie-filled candy, it will be just too hard to stop and keep yourself still.

Another way is to write your emotions when you crave. Every time you see candies and chocolates and your mouth begins to water, turn your head away and grab a piece of paper. Write down what you feel at that particular moment. You may feel that you cannot keep still. Force yourself to write it down. Your mouth may water. Write it down. You may even imagine yourself killing for that little piece of candy. Write it down. Write everything that comes to your mind. You will soon discover that as you write these things down your mind focuses on what you feel and what you should write than on the candy. Another thing, writing down your feelings will convince you not to eat. It not only helps in getting you through emotional cravings, it also helps you notice any trends and patterns in your behavior.

Finally, and this may be the simplest way to curb your cravings: Drink water. Most of us do not drink enough water so we mistake our thirst for hunger. When hungry, our resistance to food lowers greatly. Drinking water not only quenches thirst but also fills us up. Water can occupy the space available for desserts.

Time of weaknesses is just natural and sometimes, they come much often. When they do, try to remember these four steps and it will be easier for you to turn your back from your cravings and say, I have a mission to do. I will not let sweets spoil my goals.
