subject: Slow Weight Loss Out: Fast Weight Loss In [print this page] There was a time when dieters and the body-conscious was captured and enamored with the thinking that in order to lose weight, then you need to do it on a gradual manner. They say that it takes time to cut the fat in your midsection, and it takes great effort over time to get that six-pack abs that you have been dreaming. But that myth as they say is beginning to crumble, if we are to believe the results of the newest study conducted on fast weight loss.
What we are talking about is the results of the study that was conducted by one dietician, Katrina Purcell which was in turn presented in a conference in obesity. What she had presented on fast weight loss is something that caught many by surprise. In her version of dieting and weight loss, steady is not the mantra here but rather fast is the word- thus the promotion of fast weight loss. Some dieters and medical practitioners will contest this claim of course, but Ms. Purcell has solid ground to stand on thanks to the study she has conducted. In her study, she compared the rapid diet of people with around 100 kilograms losing around 1 kg per week for the next 12 weeks as opposed to those on the 32-week diet schedule which have lost a measly half a kilogram per week. Just from this alone, you can easily say that in order to have a meaningful weight loss it is important to do the dieting program in the quickest possible manner. And now is the time to end the slow and steady dieting mantra. This study of the dietician in effect cancels whatever beliefs of dieters in the past. Here are some of the salient findings in her study:
The study found out that 78 percent of those who took part in the fast weight loss program garnered the weight loss equal around 15 percent of their body weight.
This is on contrast to 48 percent of the subjects in gradual and slow diet program who realized their weight loss.
Also the total number of people who gave up the diet is more on the gradual diet program as compared to the fast weight loss program.
But it does not mean that anything fast is helpful in the field of dieting. Everyone should still be aware of the dangers of the crash dieting program that is too popular right now. Most of these dieting crash courses do cut the amount of calories in the body, and this can prove problematic to the health. And also it is not wise to do this alone without the assistance of a qualified dietician. Do remember that any form of dieting, the fast weight loss program included should be done with the assistance of a dietician. This is a necessary move so that by the time you have cut the number of calories and slash the fat, your body is still with the right amount of nutrients.
