Exercising boosts your metabolism about 10% for 4 to 6 hours afterwards. If you walk for 30 minutes you'll burn off about 200 calories and double the weight loss.
Get the right mind set. Most of us think of a diet as deprivation and that sets us up for failure almost immediately. When you can't have something it's constantly on your mind. Don't think of your weight loss program as a regime that you'll quit as soon as you've reached your weight loss goal. Think of it as a lifestyle change. You're leaving behind all the habits that made you gain weight and replacing them with good habits which will keep you at your ideal weight. If you backslide, forgive yourself, and immediately return to your program. Just because you have a cookie doesn't mean you should follow it up with a hot fudge sundae because you think you're already wrecked the day.
Picture yourself as thin. You are what you think. If your body image is fat, flabby, and out of shape, most likely that's what you'll be. Replace those negative images with positive images. The thin person inside of you will take over and you will lose the excess weight.
Postpone and procrastinate. When it comes to eating don't give in to the immediate urge to eat. Promise yourself you can have whatever you're craving, you just have to wait 30 minutes. By the time that 30 minutes has passed you probably won't be hungry anymore. It also helps to occupy yourself for those 30 minutes. Take an exercise break. Listen to an inspirational tape or read a chapter of that book you've been meaning to finish.
