subject: Should I Hire A Wedding Magician? [print this page]

Your wedding day is right around the cornerYour wedding day is right around the corner. You have made all of the choices to have a totally remarkable day. You have chosen and been chosen by the right partner. Your choice of attire will rock the world. The band in off the hook and the food is being prepared by the best gourmet chef in town. Now what? What will you do to finalize making this the best wedding day ever? Hire a wedding magician!

The idea of hiring a professional magician is a great one! What should you look for and how will he/she fit into your schedule? These are good questions, but feel comfortable that finding someone who specializes in wedding day performances will be like adding an additional wedding planner to your staff. These professionals understand how the day is supposed to go and will do nothing but enhance it and make your life easier.

Why a magician? Believe it or not, someone who specializes in weddings will be like having an extra wedding planner! These professionals know how to control a room. When people are being dragged off for pictures, many are left with nothing to do. A person walking from table to table, will help keep them entertained and more under control. Doing slight of hand magic is fun to watch and mystifying to the participants. Performing card tricks and other illusions will baffle the crowd and give them something very cool to remember. Most of the attendees, likely have not seen a live magician since they were children.

When a professional does tricks at the table, everyone is amazed with close up magic. They may be card tricks, coin illusions or something a little more elaborate, but this type of magic is always a big hit. Any type of slight of hand magic will mystify everyone and they will stay totally involved in your party. Typically, the magician can work the room right through the traditional picture taking ceremonies and into the dining portion of the reception.

Magicians and alcohol induced viewers is not a good match. Many people, who would normally enjoy the entertainment, may think they are the next Houdini and create challenges for your magician. The timing for them to complete their performance should never exceed the end of the food or the beginning of the music. There is need for only one piece of entertainment at a time.

During the interview process, there are specific things you need to learn about. It is always best when you could see them perform live. Although they specialize in wedding performances, it is likely they are working elsewhere. Go see them to check on how they interact with the audience and to make sure they have talent. Second best is seeing a video of their work. In most cases, they will have videos of previous weddings. Here you can determine how long they should work and what you should expect from the guests.

Even if they have taped shows, or you see them in person, always ask for references. With any luck, this will be your only wedding, so you need to make it as perfect as possible!! Make sure they have public liability insurance. Remember, they will be working closely with your friends and family. They may be using personal items from them and you really do not need a law suit on your hands!

If you choose to hire a wedding magician, you are creating a great time for your party. Everyone will be talking about your wedding for a long time and you will have done something different and memorable. Choose wisely, have a great time and congratulations!
