subject: True Weight Loss Will Mean You May Need To Switch Your Thinking [print this page]

Many people view losing weight as an unpleasant and temporary task. After all previously we have believed that we must starve ourselves and exercise excessively until a goal weight is reached then one can return to their 'real life'.

It is easy to understand how anyone could have a negative view of the change when losing weight could be likened to some sort of punishment. But if on the other hand, you could see improved strength and fitness along with improvements in eating as central to creating a healthier and more enjoyable life you are more likely to make the shift that you need to make that lasts.

For starters this means you can kiss goodbye to diets and fat burning type exercise. Get yourself started on a proper strength training program 2-3 times each week and get rid of as much processed foods as you can from your diet. The idea is that fitness and healthier eating based alternatives are superior and easier to implement into your life for the long haul. Here are three good reasons why and a strength training program will:

1) Rev up your metabolic motor. When you work your muscles against a resistance you are teaching your body to process more oxygen and the more efficient this process becomes the more fuel (calories) you will burn every minute of the day and night.

2) Your hormones will be more balanced. Over time, strong fit people experience positive hormonal changes that keep their bodies burning fat for energy rather than storing it. Lowered stress hormone (cortisol), higher 'growth and repair' hormones to keep you young both inside and out and lower insulin levels (fat storing) means less food cravings that can drive you to overeat and become overweight.

3) Being strong and fit grows on you. Unlike restrictive food dieting which few people can tolerate for long your proper exercise program and healthier eating quickly become a part of you. It shifts from 'something you do' to 'something you become'. As strength and fitness increase things snowball and the whole process becomes easier as hormones continue to become more balanced. Appetite is easier to keep under control when the processed foods that cause hormones to become 'out of whack' are removed.

Good nutrition coupled with proper exercise work hand in hand to further influence many of the body's energy producing hormones to promote fat loss. The hormonal scales can tip in your disfavor when you have too much or too little body fat.

The news just gets better as when you increase fitness, hormone fluctuations settle and you get off the roller coaster of blood sugar and mood swings that can cause you to overeat or abandon your exercise program before you even get your results. If you can hang in their over those first few months you will be able to say hello to a new body that you will be happy to live in for the rest of your days.
