subject: Should Women Work Out Differently Than Men To Burn Fat? [print this page]

For most men, the road to fat burning and weight loss seems easy right? Since muscle burns a lot of calories, men should focus on building as much muscle as possible. While this may be harder than it sounds, what should women do to burn fat and lose weight, but still stay slim?

Many women believe that the treadmill is the best way to lose weight and keep their girlish figure (or get it back!). After all, running on a treadmill for an hour does burn a lot of calories right?

But what happens after the workout? Your metabolism will probably be increased for an hour or two after running, but then it heads back down to where it always is throughout the day. This is because jogging on a treadmill doesn't really break down any muscle, it's just not intense enough.

Breaking down your muscle is key to cranking your metabolism up and really kicking your body into fat-burning overdrive. When you do intense workouts your muscle tissue gets damaged and afterward your body needs to fix it.

Because of this, your metabolism will be raised for 1-2 DAYS after your workouts (when you do it right), not just 1-2 hours like jogging. Plus during this process you'll be building muscle, which further increases your metabolism.

And contrary to popular belief, it's not extremely easy to build a ton of muscle like a body builder. I'm sure you know this from common sense, but many women act as if they don't know it. Lifting weights will not inflate your muscles and make you look like the hulk.

But it will force your body to lose weight much faster than jogging on a treadmill ever could.
