subject: The Production Of Beautiful Russian Arabian Horses [print this page]

There is nothing more beautiful than to see a well-bred horse going through their paces. Among those that are prominent in the field of racing, one will find the Russian Arabian. The history of this magnificent horse goes back to the 17th century with Czars and other people of nobility who became interested in this splendid animal and its ability to move at great speed.

Through the years this superb horse was almost eradicated but was brought back through very careful breeding. These horses are very strong and are known for their racing ability as well as their elegant beauty. During World War II the breed was saved from extinction by being evacuated prior to an enemy invasion.

An extremely successful breeding program was instigated eventually merging the an Arabian stud named Aswan, into the Russian breeding program. This was very successful and has produced some magnificent animals. Today, Aswan's descendants are well known throughout the racing world. Not only are they beautiful in appearance but their athletic power is well known.

The complete history of this powerful animal is well documented and can be found in many locations on the Internet as well as in history books throughout the world. It is fascinating to read how the animal, that is present today, was produced through intricate breeding and unusual circumstances.

It was when the Arabian stud Aswan came into the picture that the breeding program took on a new twist. This great animal was to produce off spring that would win in national and international circles. It is believed, in the racing arena, that this was what spelled out success for the program of producing exceptional animals.

To keep the breeding pool stimulated new stock was added along the line. The aim of the breeders was to produce quality as well as racing ability. The fact that they attained this goal is evident when one sees one of the animals competing on a race tract.

Through the breeding process horses produced that could not provide evidence of excellent racing or had other defects, were culled, thus keeping only the best in the breeding pool. One will find evidence of this decision with winners of such honors as Reserve National Champion Stallion; National Champion Racehorse; Triple Crown and many more. Russian Arabians are considered a superb example of what excellent and planned horse breeding can produce.
