Do I Need To Insure My Shipment?

When you're shipping something with a courier company, it always represents a risk on your part. You are essentially placing something that is of value, which belongs to you, in the hands of a third party. That is a large responsibility for them, but not one that you should ever just assume will be fulfilled. That is why it is critical to always make sure that all goods are insured when being transported by your San Francisco courier service. In most cases though, this just involves confirming insurance, as you shouldn't actually need to buy any additional insurance of your own when shipping with a legal courier.

When a courier company goes into business, they need to get all kinds of insurance in order to be able to operate. The first thing that they need is the same insurance that any company is going to need on their vehicles and drivers. Then there is a type of insurance which only couriers need to worry about. This is courier insurance, and is a type of policy which is unique to the industry, because instead of insuring the goods which belong to the company, they actually insure the goods which belong to the company's clients.

Courier insurance is going to insure against almost anything that is going to happen to your package while it is on the road. For instance, almost anything which might happen that could cause damage of any kind to your goods is going to be covered by these types of policies. If your courier was in an accident where damage was sustained by the package it would be insured. So would damage caused by fire or smoke if the courier needed to store your goods for some period of time. Damage which is caused by weather is included in most of these policies. Finally, damage simply caused by courier negligence such as dropping your package or crushing it by stacking heavier package on it would also be insured.

Anything that might cause your package to get lost is also going to be insured against. This is particularly helpful in the cases where a courier delivered a package to the wrong address. If the courier loses the package within their own facilities, it can usually be located. If it is delivered incorrectly though, this can be much more difficult, and as such the insurance is very comforting. It should also protect against theft.
