subject: Dating Advice For Men—For the Distinguished Gentleman [print this page]

Who says that only young men have problems finding women? If you are a 20-year-old with a good body, Zac Efron-like hair and baby-blue eyes, then stop your bellyaching! Imagine what it's like to be 40 or 50 years old, balding and battling a slower metabolism. The reason I'm focusing on dating advice for men, specifically, the distinguished gentleman, is because I know there are many older men out there who deserve a happy dating life, but who are just too afraid to "get back out there" and start over again.

Starting your dating life up again after a 10-20 year break can be difficult. Older men may be reeling from a divorce, may be raising a child, or may have had to act as caretaker for his aging parents. (You know what caretaking meanskiss your love life goodbye!) However, just because a man ages does not mean that he is "retired" from the game. There is no retirement when it comes to love. Why even seniors in their 60s and 70s are still finding partners to enjoy life with.

The first lesson in dating advice for men, regardless of age, is to work on your self-esteem. There is nothing attractive about a man who is self-loathing, embarrassed about himself and generally ashamed to be out in public. It's sad and it reinforces the unfortunate stereotype of the "lonely old man." On the other hand, older men who are self-confident, wise and happy to be dating are an inspiration. Not only can these self-confident men find a partner in their own age group, but they may even find younger women to date. After all, many younger women find older men attractive and it's usually not because of looks.

After working on your self-confidence, focus on some crucial dating advice for men, especially as you mature. You are not out to control anybody. You are not out to beg for a woman's attention. You are not afraid to express your opinion and show your intelligence. You are not trying to be someone else, or pretend to be a younger man. Your greatest qualities are your smarts, your debonair manners, your maturity and your sharp sense of humor.

The best dating advice for men is to stop worrying about looks and start thinking about opportunity. Remember that even seniors like Harrison Ford and are still considered very sexy. As for the old "baldness" excuse? How about actors like James Gandolfini (48 and balding) or Bruce Willis? These men have charisma and charmthat's what makes them sexy. You can be too, regardless of looks. All you need is a little coaching and you can be back in the game!
