subject: Choosing Maternity Yoga Clothes [print this page]

Expecting a little one? If you do yoga, and you're pregnant, you can keep doing most of your regular workouts, but pretty soon it might be time to start thinking about maternity yoga clothes. Maternity yoga clothes are, of course, very similar to regular yoga clothing, but there are some special considerations you may want to keep in mind when choosing maternity yoga clothes. Yoga pants with wide, stretchy waistbands might be more comfortable while you are pregnant. But make sure they aren't too tight as this can be discomforting to both you and your baby, and tight clothing can also restrict blood flow and ease of movement. While loose fitting tops are often recommended for yoga, you may want to consider a slightly snugger top while you are pregnant to avoid any embarrassing belly displays while doing certain stretches and moves. (Unless, of course, this doesn't bother you.) Choose undergarments that are comfortable, and allow plenty of support, yet also allow you to move freely. Some women find they sweat more than usual when pregnant, so make sure your clothes, from undergarments to tops and pants, are loose fitting and sweat absorbent. Many companies make yoga clothing specifically for pregnant women. But this does not mean that you have to wear maternity yoga clothesyou can simply purchase yoga clothes in larger sizes if this seems more practical, or makes you more comfortable. Remember that yoga clothes should fit comfortably, and make you feel positive and good about yourself, regardless of whether you are pregnant or not. If you are unsure about whether the clothes fit properly, as a friend for her opinion. Above all, you should feel as comfortable and happy in your maternity yoga clothes as you do in your usual yoga clothes. Choose styles and colours you are happy with, regardless of what others may think or consider normal.
