subject: Safety Guidelines When Your Baby Is On A Car [print this page]

Do you know a lot of children get unnecessarily injured in car accidents because they are not properly seated in the car seat? According to a report, its approximately about 80% of kids. Yet, still many of us do not even bother about using safe car actions for our children. Now, let us be cautious and follow some basic guidelines so that we can avoid our babies from getting caught up in an accident.

First, parents must always remember not to use the car's regular seat belts for your child until they fit appropriately when your child is 5ft tall and is about 85 pounds. Your child should not use standard seat belts until the shoulder strap fits across his shoulder and not his neck as well as the lap belt fits across his hips and not to his stomach.

Second, dont use a seat which has its harness straps too loose or in the wrong position, always lock the seat belt properly with a locking clip, secure the seat belt appropriately and do not place an infant seat in the way of an air bag.

Third, when a child is above one year old and weighs more than 20 pounds then he or she can be seated in a forward facing car seat until they reached up to 40 pounds of weight. Children over 40 pounds should be placed into a belt positioning booster seat and they should more often than not stay in it until they reached the age of 8.

Finally, you should not allow your child to sit in the front seat until he or she is more than 12 years of age. Also, do not make use of a car seat that was involved in a crash and has a crack in its frame or has some part missing. Always follow these instructions to guarantee your baby's security in the car. Let us always ensure the safety of our babies.
