subject: Short Quick Excerpts Of Wedding And Proposal Stories Part 2 [print this page] Once Shane turned 16 he had changed a little and we became friends and from then we started seeing one another and fell in love right away. Given we were so young it was a very intense relationship but at the same time it was really so much fun. By the time we were 21 we had purchased our first home and at 24 Shane proposed on bended knee in our lounge whilst I ate a vegemite sandwich. So in March 2002 we were engaged.
A simple civil ceremony was held amongst the sand dunes at the Main Beach Lakes Entrance in near perfect weather with a backdrop of the front lake and the blue sea. The aisle was lined with eight white bali flags streaming in the light breeze and rose petals scattered on the sand. I was so excited walking down the aisle with my Dad by my side to the song 'At Last' by Etta James. As soon as I saw Stephen I couldn't keep my eyes off him for the entire ceremony, everything else was a blur.
The ceremony was so romantic and gorgeous. We married at the Albert Street Uniting Church in Brisbane City. It was short and simple ceremony which is what we wanted. My bridal party and I walked down the aisle to the organ playing Cannon in D for the Bridesmaids, and the Bridal March for myself. My dad was so emotional as we were walking down the aisle, it was very unexpected as I had never seen my dad cry before so it was a truly beautiful moment. I will treasure it always.
So when we decided on a 70's theme I knew straight away I had to try to get this dress. The website I saw it on was an American one so I called New York with the hope that they could send me the dress and I could get it altered to fit here. New York put me onto a place in Berkshire, England who put me in touch with their representative in Brisbane, Australia, called 'Sugar & Spice'.
After dinner we drove up to the lighthouse. It was pouring rain so Lee's original plan wasn't going to work, so he had to tell me then that he had booked us a room at the lighthouse. I was so excited as I've always wanted to stay there. When the rain finally stopped Lee suggested we go and have a look at the lighthouse at night time. It was very scary up there, old and historic and it felt as if there were ghosts lerking around. I was about to tell Lee that I wanted to go back as it was really spooky, but then he said 'do you want your last birthday present?'. I didn't know what he was talking about and then to my surprise he pulled out a box. I was so nervous I just started laughing, the poor guy didn't know what to do. But once I calmed down he got down on his knee and asked me to marry him. It was so exciting.
Our reception was held at The Wharf Bar & Grill in Forster which overlooks the lake. It has a beautiful big balcony also which was decorated with fairy lights. Our room was totally pink, white and oriental lily theme and was just so pretty. We served finger food on the balcony whilst we were having photos and then had an entree and main pretty much as soon as we got there at 6.15pm. We wanted all the formalities over so we could party and hit the dance floor. Our waltz was to "All my life" by Kci & Jojo which was a song out when we were first together and had loved ever since. The rest of the night was a total party and everyone danced and had a great time until we left at 1.30am.
