How To Ensure You Order The Right Cash Register Rolls

If your business is in the food and drink or retail sector, the one thing you'll be accustomed to doing is processing payments and issuing receipts. It is impossible to manage without the consumables and equipment that enable these transactions to take place - like cash register rolls and credit card machine rolls.

When you get to the weekly or monthly stock take, these items need to be kept in plentiful supply to ensure that your business or retail outlet runs smoothly.

If you are unsure about what type or size of cash register rolls and credit card machine rolls you require, your stationery and office products supplier will be able to advise you accordingly.

As a general guide, there are two types of cash register rolls - thermal and single or multi-ply. Thermal paper is a heat sensitive paper that is used in machines with a thermal print head, whereas single or multi-ply rolls are used in impact or dot matrix machines.

To check whether your machine uses an impact printer you need to confirm whether or not it has a ribbon. If you can see a ribbon the device has an impact printer and will need to be refilled with single or multi-ply cash register rolls.

Some kinds of impact printers use action paper, which is pressure sensitive, rather than ribbon. This allows the print to be carried through to multiple layers of the till receipts.

Measuring your credit card machine rolls before re-ordering could save you time and money. Firstly you will need to measure the width of the roll and secondly the diameter of a full, unused roll to make sure that it will fit your equipment.

It can be beneficial, if you need a lot of credit card machine rolls and cash register rolls, to search for bulk buying discounts, as long as this does not compromise the quality of the paper. Low grade paper produces more dust which can build up and cause the printer to jam, so make sure you are still getting the highest quality paper when you sign up for bulk buying offers.

The phasing out of cheques and the rise in debit and credit card payments will only increase the use of machines to process payments and thus cause a rise in demand for till and card machine rolls in the future.
