subject: How To Make A Grand Entrance To Your Wedding Reception [print this page] First impressions set the mood for the wedding festivities. Greet guests at your reception with balloons, fountains and flowers. If the reception is at a different place than the ceremony, assign someone to move the ceremony flowers to the reception. No matter what your budget, from low cost to luxurious, the entrance to your wedding reception gets the celebration going from the first minute.
Balloon Arches
Your guests will immediately be in a party mood when they enter the reception under arches of balloons in your wedding colors. Balloons also come in clear, silver and gold as well. Helium filled balloons wound around a string will naturally form an arch when both ends are anchored to the floor. Five arches placed 5 feet apart give the impression of a tunnel. Use bunches of balloons throughout the reception area to echo the arches.
Fountains
Fountains sparkle in the light, add movement and are romantic. Use the Bellagio Fountains in Las Vegas for inspiration. Set tabletop fountains on pillars that are from 3 to 4-feet tall. Surround the fountains with a wreath of fresh flowers. Angle a colored light to shine on each fountain. Hide the electrical cords of the fountains and light with tape that matches the colors of the pillars. Wedding receptions are not brightly lit so the cords shouldn't be obvious. Tape the cords to the flooring so no one trips over them. If you don't want to use electrical lights, weave battery-operated twinkle lights in the wreaths surrounding the fountains.
Topiaries
A topiary on each side of the entrance way is lovely. A row of topiaries leading into the reception is stunning. Topiaries are sometimes called standards. They are flower-covered spheres on top of a straight trunk. The flowers may be all of the same kind, say roses or chrysanthemums, or several different types. It takes quite a few flowers to make a large topiary. Consider using silk flowers and spraying with a floral scent instead of fresh. Another alternative is to place tall floral arrangements on top of pillars.
Caged Birds
Surround a pair of live doves in a gilded cage with pots of flowers. Twine garlands of flowers up through the cage. Echo the theme by placing small wire fancy birdcages on each table with an arrangement of flowers and candles inside. Craft stores sometimes have birdcages in both wire and wood. Doves can be rented. This is a perfect reception entryway decoration if doves were released at the wedding ceremony.
