subject: Weight Loss - How To Stop Putting The Weight Back On [print this page]

Trying to lose weight and keeping it off can be very challenging for many people. Actually, a lot of people find that losing the weight is the easy part however, ensuring that it stays off is far more difficult.

This is not surprising because diets are designed to make you lose weight not to ensure you keep it off. A diet is a restrictive eating program over a set period of time. Once the program runs its course that is it. There is little to know direction or advice on how to maintain the weight you have lost. You can continue with the diet program however, this is not advisable as most diets are based on restricting certain foods. Many people do not have the will power to keep eating a stick of celery and a tub of low fat yoghurt for the rest of their lives. There is not much fun in that.

Many people who go on diets put the weight back on shortly afterwards. They continue down this cycle of weight loss and weight gain. This not only affects them physically it also affects them mentally. Experiencing extreme feelings of joy and relief as the weight comes off is followed swiftly with feelings of guilt and depression as the weight begins to pile back on again.

Experiencing this after a while makes people believe that they will never achieve the weight they want.

To successfully lose weight and maintain it you need to believe in yourself. This is where it all starts. If you do not believe in yourself then how is anyone going to believe in you? You need to believe and take responsibility for your actions because nobody else will.

You can begin to believe in yourself by searching out people who have successfully lost weight and kept it off. It does not need to be a person who has lost weight. It can be any person who has faced a major challenge in their life and has overcome it. Finding out how these people did it and the techniques they used to achieve what they did is a powerful motivator.

There is a strong belief among high achievers that to achieve a goal and make it reality you first of all need to make it a reality in your mind. Many high achievers use visualisation techniques to give them the faith and belief to achieve what they want.

If your confidence has been battered by many failed diets then, you need to challenge your way of thinking. Challenge every negative thought that enters your head. Do not let one get away scot free.

Take responsibility for your actions and do not blame the diet. They do not work anyway. Only you can fix the problem. When you believe and take responsibility for the choices you make you will have a greater chance of achieving and maintaining the weight that you desire.

Always seek a doctor"s advice if you have a medical condition or food allergy before changing your diet.
