subject: Give Your Laptop Double Insurance [print this page]

It's a pity to lose a laptop AC adapter as my friend had his dell PA-12 AC Adapter stolen. He had to spend thirty dollars for a new replacement. But what about the laptop? It's twenty and more times of an AC adapter on price. During summer vocation, it's easy to lost laptop without attention. Here are some tips to effectively protect a laptop on vacation.

For a laptop, the most valuable stuff is the information and data that you keep in the laptop. Or it's more important than the laptop itself. Before vocation, take steps to secure important data. Before you start your vacation, make sure that all of your important files are safe. It's a good idea to have an external hard drive to store the crucial files. If you do not have one, then you can encrypt the files or folders. This can prevent the strangers open them without password. As last year's scandals of the pictures, it's because of the reveal of the personal data.

When you are out on vacation, place the laptop in an ordinary-looking carrier instead of a special laptop bag. It's better to put your laptop in an inconspicuous-looking bag. This way, you do not travel around advertising to everybody that you are carrying an expensive laptop with you.

When you set at the hotel, if you must leave your laptop in your hotel room, make sure to keep it hidden from normal view. That is to say, a closet, drawer or dresser with a lock could be good places. In the crowed place, watch over your bag, for my friend's PA-12 AC Adapter stole in the free market.

The last but not the least advice is to avoid using public wireless access. Wi-Fi spots are convenient, but accessing them could be a security danger. This is especially true if the laptop you are using is configured to share files. People using the same wireless access could obtain the data on your laptop remotely without notice. As we mentioned above, it's more dangerous to have the data lost or stolen by strangers.

It's lucky for my friend to lost only his dell PA-12 AC Adapter instead of the laptop. So watch over your laptop.
