Ideas for the Spookiest, Scariest Halloween Ever

Autumn is the best time of year, in my opinion. The trees change colors, the air is cool and brisk, school is back in session, football is back and the holiday season begins. To kick it off right, I am offering up some ideas for a truly frightful Halloween experience.

For those who simply like to scare unsuspecting passerbies, you may be a perfect fit for your local haunted attractions. A lot of these businesses rely on actors' and actresses' to pull off the perfect scare. It doesn't take much experience. Just find out when your local haunt is hiring and practice your best, scariest monster act ahead of time. If you're a creative person, you may be able to share some ideas for decorations or attractions. Plus, you'll get to meet a lot of great people, who have the same interests as you.

Perhaps a night at your local cemetery will give you the spooky feeling you're looking for. Most cemeteries close at dusk, due to the risk of vandalism, but a lot of the older, 19th century ones go without a groundskeeper, thus no one to open and close the gates. If you are lucky enough to have one of these great, old cemeteries nearby, grab a group of friends and head out for a night of fright. If you're real devious, you can add some creepy sound effects to your cell phone or mp3 player to scare the daylights out of your friends.

How about a night of horror flicks at your local state park; most state parks have band stands or other arenas that would allow for a projector to showcase some scary, gory horror films. Plus, you'll be in a wooded, dark, secluded area, which just increases the scary, Halloween effect.

Haunted hayrides are always fun. Slowly creeping through the dark woods on a creaking trailer, while random monsters jump out at you, through the blackness, is enough to give anyone a fright. This is a good family or friend time activity. Just be sure to check the age requirements to make sure it's not too scary for the younger set.

For those adrenaline junkies, who really want a frightful Halloween, check your area for paranormal investigation tours. They investigate the paranormal activity of various historical sites throughout your state. Maybe you'll get lucky and have a "Sixth Sense" experience.

If you'd like to go all out for the Halloween season, try taking a vacation and visit some of the most well-known, haunted areas of the country. If you plan ahead, you may be able to visit quite a few of these terrifying haunts before you have to return to your real life. I found a list of the top 10 most haunted places in America. The web address can be found in my resource box. Though, I'm sure you can find plenty of places nearby just by doing a Google search.

Of course, just taking the kids trick or treating or watching "The Great Pumpkin" with the kids is also a perfectly enjoyable way to spend your holiday. Happy Haunting!
