subject: Information On Buying An Above Ground Pool Heater [print this page]

Do you need an above ground pool heater for your swimming pool, but you're not sure where to start? Heaters are a great tool to make sure you get the most use out of your pool, and here you'll find a little information to help you make the right choice on a good heater.

You have quite a few choices when it comes to heater models, and one great way to narrow them down is to consider how much you're willing to pay for one. They can range in price from just a few hundred dollars to thousands of dollars, so decide on how much you want to invest in this.

When you've narrowed your price range down, think of what you want the heat source to be. There are solar powered models, gas and propane heaters, and electric ones as well. Decide what would be your best and most convenient heat resource. A gas powered heater, for instance, would require a gas pipe in your back yard, which is an extra installation if it isn't already in place.

Electric heaters will of course require outdoor outlets available and solar heaters will require a nice sunny spot so that you get optimal use out of them. If your pool area is shaded or you're hoping to use your heater during cloudy months when you don't get a lot of sunshine, a solar heater probably won't be a good idea.

Be aware of the costs of heating. Solar might be cheapest, but which would be more convenient for you when choosing between gas and electric? What about extra installation fees if those power sources must be brought to your pool because they aren't already there?

These machines are usually fairly easy to install yourself so you won't have to worry about getting a whole construction crew into your backyard just to get the heater up and running.

And don't forget to take into consideration the size and heat output of your heater. Know the surface area of your pool, the temperature you'd like to keep it at, and the average temperature of the coldest month you want to swim in. Using this information will help determine how powerful a model you need.

An above ground pool heater will help you make the most of your swimming pool. It will keep your swim comfortable and enjoyable even when the weather isn't!
