Through progressive technology, a lot of things wherein most have been proven essential have been invented and are now making things easier and safer for people from specific fields such as engineering, medicine, communication, etc. Although having the 'latest and greatest' oral surgery equipment is not a requirement of a good surgeon, it certainly doesn't hurt if your dental surgeon does use the latest equipment available.

It is not very hard to understand why utilizing of the latest technology is advantageous since we experience it ourselves. There is a reason why we use high end mobile phones which have the most varying features that thoroughly went way beyond the main purpose of phones or why our home computers are composed of hardware with the highest of specs. We get the latest because they were made for a reason!

These things weren't invented just for the sake of putting out something new to the market but mainly because they answer to the shortcomings or inadequacy of the things that were invented before them.

It is the physician's responsibility to provide the proper treatment to his or her patient by curing the ailment or making the patient better while it is the patient's utmost concern to be cured and the latest advancements in technology help both the patient and the physician to achieve just that. As it relates to the field of medicine where the primary objectives are better, faster treatments with fewer complications, speedier recovery, and less pain, utilizing newer techniques or equipment often times 'safer and more effective'. Typically, both the patient and the physician want that.

Removal of impacted wisdom teeth, TMJ treatments, or other oral surgical procedures are often underestimated, but as with any type of surgery, they do involve some risks and as such patients should be fully informed about how their surgeon will perform the actual procedure.

It is only smart to ask your potential oral surgeon how advanced his procedures and equipment are and how the differences of procedure and equipment would affect the results of the surgery. As a patient, it is your right to know what how things will go.

In case the surgeon is not using the most advanced equipment or procedure, this should not really cause the patient an alarm. Give the surgeon the chance to explain why he or she opts to use this procedure or equipment and if it will still provide the expected results nonetheless.
