Unless you are a professional wedding planner, organising a wedding isn't something you are likely to be doing often. What should you consider when you want to organise a wedding?

Set the wedding venue

If you're planning a church wedding, the local vicar will help you with some of the arrangements such as the choir, bell ringers, etc. If you are using a different venue such as a registry office then they should offer assistance and may well have a leaflet or download to assist your planning.

Publicise the date

Unless you are both recluses, chances are that you'll want other people to come to your wedding. Which means sending out invitations in plenty of time, asking people to RSVP and making sure that you chase up anyone important who hasn't responded within a reasonable time.

Choose a reception venue

This should be reasonably close to the wedding venue - you don't want guests to have too far to travel after the service. Make sure that the wedding reception venue you choose has enough space for the number of potential guests and find out their policies on catering, alcohol and bands. The venue may supply things such as a public address system or you may need to hire this in.

Order your wedding dress

It takes time for a wedding dress to be made once you've chosen the design. Choosing a local company will help make sure that you can check the progress of the design and make sure that it will look superb on the day itself.

Order your wedding rings

Unless you're buying these essential items "off the shelf" then they will need time to be made. Even if you're buying a ready made wedding ring it may still need adjusting for the best fit.

Make a list!

There are lots of other things you need to consider when you organise your wedding - the cake, the stag and hen parties, the honeymoon, flowers for the day, etc. Making a check list and consulting it on a regular basis will take a lot of the strain out of the wedding organisation. Get someone else to double check your list and cross off each item when it's been done.
