At the end of 2009, the most treacherous economic and emotionally trying road I have ever seen, I sat down in my comfortable chair to think about what it will take in the coming year to correct our course. In that moment I heard in the background a dialogue between Glenn Beck and Jon Huntsman on hope, fear, and struggles through the valleys of life. This conversation was right on cue so I went in the next room to gain a better view. I had no idea who Jon Huntsman was, what he had accomplished in his career, or the high standard he exemplifies for others as leaders in life and business. As I listened to the dialogue and the true integrity and leadership Jon Huntsman demonstrated I realized that this man is one of an elite group of leaders. Mr. Huntsman operates by a resolute code of principles that I often feared to be near extinction in America. Hence, the tragic state of our overall business environment and way of life where many seek loop holes and make cut throat deals for personal gain. This man does $100 million dollar deals on his word and a hand shake because that is truly all anyone should require.After all if you cant trust a mans word why would his contract have any value? As we start a new year and begin a new decade I would like to challenge everyone to think about their actions, decisions, and daily life from the Huntsman perspective. If our way of life incorporated more of this leadership perspective, imagine what the multiplying outcome could be across America and the world. To me the topics and points made in this discussion have meaning that hits the core of our existence and holds all the real value in this life. I cant do Jon Huntsman justice on all the points he made in what I have said here today, so please set aside a few minutes and listen for yourselfit may be the most valuable reminder that starts your year off on solid ground.
