subject: What You Don't Know About Dietary Fat [print this page]

There was a period in time when the government openly recommended reducing fat intake. Rates of obesity, however, kept on increasing.

And if you don't know how to manage your fat intake getting in shape will be extremely difficult.

Thus, here are some facts about dietary fat that you need to know:

1. Polyunsaturated fat cannot be made by your body: This means that all of your polyunsaturated fat intake must come from your diet or you will suffer a deficiency. So make sure you don't just focus on one fat source. Consume a wide variety.

2. Too much fish oil is bad for you: Having pill after pill of fish oil is not the way to get healthy. In fact, having too much fish oil can increase bruising and bleeding. Even worse, it can damage your circulatory system because of oxidation.

3. Eating fat is essential for the proper absorption of vitamins: In fact, a lot of the vitamin waters on the market are not worth your money because they don't have the necessary fat for the absorption of their vitamins.

4. You need to eat about thirty percent of your caloric intake as fat: Otherwise, your production of fat burning and muscle building hormones will go down. Ironically, you need to eat a lot of dietary fat in order to burn body fat.

5. Body fat and dietary fat gets cycled in and out of your fat cells all the time: This means that it's virtually impossible to dictate where your body loses fat from. The only way around this is with surgery which I don't recommend.

6. It maintains the membranes of your cells: This means that without fat, your cells will not be able to absorb the highest amount of nutrients. This in turn will make it harder for your muscles to absorb protein and carbohydrates for repair and recovery.

Without an optimal intake of fat in your diet, losing weight will be harder than pushing a boulder up a hill. So take action here sooner rather than later!
