To avoid back pain, pregnant women should not change her sitting position frequently and avoid standing for long periods of time. Also essential in eliminating and avoiding back pain in early pregnancy are adequate rest and sleep. Another requirement to avoid strain on the back is to wear low-heeled shoes with proper arch support. Also helpful in avoiding back pain is the use of a low stool for resting the feet while sitting or standing for long periods.
