You need to find your reason for breeding and make sure you are working to achieve your goal. If you are breeding to raise some pedigree show rabbits then you want to make sure you are breeding within the same breed. If their ancestry is not from the same breed ranging back at least 4 generations then it cannot be considered pedigree. This is when the knowledge of genetics in breeding would help you out; you can experiment and raise the perfect rabbits based on the genetics you are looking for.

When breeding you also want to take into affect the size, colors and personality. It takes time and experience to be able to breed rabbits to get the perfect size and color. When you first begin you should breed bunnies that are similar in color and size until you have gained enough experience to create exactly what you want. This takes time, experience, and some education. You won't be perfect right off the bat but you will become better with experience. If you start by breeding two rabbits with similar colors you will most likely get a litter with those colors. After a few times breeding you can play around with colors, as well as size, to breed a rabbit that is perfect for your breeding reason. This also holds true to inbreeding and inbreeding can allow you to accomplish this because of the similar genetics. But, like we mentioned before, be careful because you can run into some problems with inbreeding.

Lastly, you want to avoid breeding rabbits with defects. Anything from bad fur, aggressiveness, diseases, sickness, etc should be eliminated when breeding. Inbreeding can cause some of these problems which is why it is very important to avoid inbreeding if you're not experienced.
