subject: Eat To Gain Weight – Modifying Your Diet To Gain Weight [print this page]

Changing the structure of your body is pretty common-place these days as we become more and more concerned with our appearance. If you want to eat to gain weight in a healthy manner and change your body shape permanently, changes in your lifestyle and diet will be required. Remember, weight gain will not occur immediately and these weight gain techniques will have to take place on an on-going basis. This article will be looking at these changes and how to implement them.

With the increasing pace of life, many people simple 'forget to eat' or simply don't eat enough. There are a multitude of reasons for this, but often it is due to a more sedentary lifestyle and the general pressures and stresses of life.

In order to gain weight with diet alone, it is simply a matter of eating more and eating the right kind of foods. One of the first changes that might have to take place, if not already in existence, is regular meals and low-fat snacks. Eating large but few meals generally means a lower calorie intake and as a result lower energy levels and alertness. One of the big mistakes is missing out on breakfast, as this meal jump starts the metabolism and fuels the energy for the day. Eating a carbohydrate and protein based breakfast such as porridge and dried fruit will release energy slowly throughout the morning.

For effective weight gain it is best to include 4 moderate meals spread throughout the day as opposed to 3 large ones. Snacks should also be incorporated into the diet. These may take the form of yoghurt, bananas, nuts and bagels with low fat cheese or spread. Snacks should be nutritious foods rather than candy and chips/crisps. In order to put on weight and stay healthy, a moderate fat intake with healthy poly and mono-unsaturated fats and oils such as olive and vegetables oils should be consumed.

The diet should be adapted for a general increase in food, however, this should be a realistic change with just a few hundred extra calories per day. There is no point in consuming large quantities of food to gain weight quickly as it will make you feel bloated or sick and put you off food for a while. Instead, small dietary changes should be put in place which can be sustained for a more permanent weight gain.

The rules for losing weight shouldn't just be reversed for weight gain, as this may cause health complications such as heart disease risk. Fat should only feature moderately in the diet and plenty of fruit and vegetables should be eaten. Take-away foods and foods high in sugar should, just like any other healthy diet, be consumed very occasionally as they provide lower levels of nutrition.

Once you begin your healthy weight gain diet, you will find that you have more energy, are mentally and physically healthier and with any luck you will look and feel absolutely fantastic!
