The best place to be has been a hunter's argument for centuries. Some prefer to be in the center of a clearing as they claim it provides them with the best view of what is around them. The other half argue that the best place to be is in the middle of thickest area as they fear the biggest buck will not wander out of the safety of thick brush areas.

Both sides have agreed that the best place to be in either situation is close to a water supply. The deer are able to find more food near a water area making it possible to find a deer. There is also a greater chance of hitting the target in these areas.

Watch for trees to rustle or listen for branches to break. Often times hearing is the best sense to utilize while hunting. You are apt to hear the animal and know the vicinity long before they come into site.

It is hard to not get excited when you see the deer but do not move quickly or panic. Focus on where you are going to aim and prepare to take the shot. Remember the closer you are to the target when using a bow the better chance you will have of getting a hit and do not forget to take the safety off.

After you get the shot off it is important to remember where the buck was standing at the time of the hit. You will need to know a general location of where to start the search. Wait approximately a half an hour before beginning the search and make sure the animal is dead before attempting to handle. When the season is over, it is important to thoroughly clean your used crossbows, check the strings and if they are worn replace them before storing for next season.
