subject: Hcg Diet Explained [print this page] The HCG diet protocol is based on the studies of Dr. Simeons, a British endocrinologist. Dr. Simeons spent years of research on thousands of obese patients to develop the protocol.
When some people hear about the diet, they think they have to take shots every day or that they'll starve on 500 calories, and they're turned off. Usually that is because they haven't had the HCG diet explained to them properly.
Lack of knowledge brings an excess of myths to the table. Here's a factual explanation of HCG diet that will help you decide whether or not it's for you.
The HCG diet protocol begins with taking HCG, which comes in a variety of forms: shots, sublingual (under the tongue) drops, or nose spray. The most common and economical form is the homeopathic sublingual drops. This gives all the benefits of the HCG without having to ingest the full strength hormone.
The first two days of the HCG diet are called Load Days. You take the HCG and eat as much fat-laden food as you can stomach. This causes the body to behave as if there is an excess of fat when the low calorie portion of the diet begins.
During the next 21 55 days (depending on how much weight you want to lose) you continue taking the HCG drops and follow a strict food plan. You'll eat no more than 500 calories per day. The diet is very specific in what foods you can and cannot eat. If you deviate from this plan, your weight loss will be sabotaged. You may still lose, but not as much, and you may have trouble keeping it off.
This is followed by three days of the low calorie diet but without the HCG drops. This gets all of the HCG out of your system before you start eating other foods.
Now comes six weeks of maintenance where your goal is to stabilize at your new lower weight. You'll eat more calories per day, but no starch or sugars for the first three weeks. During the last three weeks, these are gradually added, all while monitoring your weight daily.
There are many benefits of the HCG diet as explained in Pounds and Inches, especially when compared to other diets. The most notable of these is the increased metabolism and the long-term weight loss. Also, the fat released into the body by the HCG prevents hunger, and this fat is always "abnormal" fat, not structural (necessary) fat that is lost during other diets.
To have the HCG diet explained in further detail, be sure to read Dr. Simeons' book "Pounds and Inches: A New Approach to Obesity". It will detail the foods that are allowed in each phase. It will also explain the science behind the HCG diet.
