Well, today I bought Infineon Intel Wireless Business Solutions WLS 1400000000 dollars for their U.S. dollars.
Why do they do it? Well, Intel is trying to get to the phone on the market CPUs , but are having trouble competing with such Qualcomm and ARM, which are able to offer all the communication options its, WiFi, Bluetooth, GSM, 3G, 4G as CPU / GPU on a single chip. This makes the chips are not only smaller(and therefore easier to fit on the logic board) but also more energy efficient.
So, rather than relying on a third party to all eggs chips in one basket package, Intel finally able to offer a complete system-on- a-chip, by their own hands.
such chips is a feature not only in laptops that Intel is well known, but also in tablets, netbooks and smartphones.
Intel mention in the press release(below) that the WLS will continue to operate as a standalone business, and most importantly will continue to support ARM devices.
The agreement will likely close in the first quarter of 2011, and Intel also help accelerate LTE.
