Shopping online is quick, easy

Shopping online is quick, easy, and convenient, but are you making the best choices? There are hundreds of sellers online today, so it's important to choose your best option.

The first thing you should know when surfing online is the importance of a search engine. When driving to physical stores, you have to know which store has the products you are looking forthat or drive all over town. Also, you don't always know when you're at the store if you could find this same item for much less somewhere else. A search engine is like an information desk for the Internet.

You can type in some keywords, like "iphone" or "nokia n97" and the search engine will look up every instance of those keywords for you all over the Internet. Also, the pages of results you get for that keyword search (called a query) are listed in order of relevance and helpfulness. Because of the hard work and complicated scanning and sorting done by a search engine, you don't have to pour hours of research into looking what website can save you money.

The most popular search engines are Google.com, Yahoo.com, and Bing.com. All three of these search engines have a "Shopping" category filter that allows you to see related products, pictures, prices, and sometimes reviews that will match your query. If you don't know what websites are likely to save you money, or you're just curious what websites sell a product you're looking for, try running a Shopping search query for it and see what comes up. A regular search query might work as well, but you'll have to wade through some other websites that are related, but don't have anything for sale.

Another important thing all online shoppers need to know is how much money you can save by buying from individuals. Websites like Ebay.com, achinaseller.com, Amazon.com, and Craigslist.org have thousands of items for sale by individualsnew, like new, and used items in good condition are usually a fraction of the original price, plus you're more likely to find something unique. These sites are a safe way to help out a fellow individual and get something of value to you for much less than a new copy.

When you shop online be sure to practice Internet safety. Here are a few things to look out for:

*Read the privacy policy, terms of service, return policy, etc. before you choose to buy from a website. Make sure that they are a legitimate company and your personal and financial information will be safe.

*Look for sites that allow you to pay for items with a separate company like PayPal. What this does is put in a middle man to keep you from having to give your credit card and personal information to someone you don't know. This is especially important when buying from an individual.

*You may want to check out the Better Business Bureau or Consumer Reports before doing business with a website.

There are many more tips and advice for smart and safe shopping online. Don't forget to look around! You've got so many sellers to choose from!
