subject: Strategies For Texas Hold Em - Strategies That Need Practice Before They Work [print this page] Some strategies for Texas Hold Em you have to practice before they work. It's kind of a pain right. At least these shortcuts help a little.
Even if you are just starting out in Holdem, have been playing for a while or already have a few of your own strategies for Texas Hold Em, I know that you, like me, are interested in learning more. And it's been proven that players who are interested in learning more become great poker players.
I bet you're happy you are already becoming successful.
The following two strategies are good, if you can do them right. I rely on more standard/basic strategies but you can incorporate these into your game to mix things up and win a little more.
Strategies For Texas Hold Em - Check Raise
Personally, I don't like check raising. I think it's one of the harder strategies to pull off. I find it's easier to just bet. But the saying goes that if you bet and they fold you will win a little. If you check, keep them in, then raise, you will win a lot.
But how can you know what cards are gonna drop? Well it's all chance isn't it. That's why I prefer the safe route.
You'll need to practice this strategy before it will work very well. You need to know that you have better cards than the opponent, that you are going to win with the better hand, and then you check when you think they will fold if you bet, then you raise when they are in the pot too much (pot committed).
There are a few tricks to this - watch the player. A tell might indicate they will fold if you bet. Also, if you are in position and they check you can check after them.
Strategies For Texas Hold Em - Bullying
Bullying can be fun when you do it right. It's very easy to do, but slightly harder to do right. When you bully you bet very aggressively so that the pot odds for players are so bad they don't really want to play. Then you continue to win every time, cleaning up the blinds (and antes). You gotta watch out though cause someone can play you and beat you at a showdown, then ouch, you lost a lot.
A few tricks are that you can not get too loose when you bully, so only bully when you have half-decent cards. Another is to do sprints. So bully heavily, take your wins, then tighten up and play normal, effectively securing the wins and preventing yourself from losing them.
These strategies for Texas Hold Em can be very lucrative if you do them correctly. You'll need to practice before you can do them perfectly every time. The check raise you won't lose that much if you do it wrong (you'll just win less). But the bullying you might lose a lot if something happens.
