Personal Safety Devices: Better Safe Than Sorry

We have all seen the frightening news stories of women and children being attacked in the streets, at the park, in their homes, during the evening, and even during broad daylight. It seems as if nobody is safe anymore. Regardless of the area that you live in, the thought of someone attacking you is scary enough to do something about it. Chances are that you will never have to use your personal safety device, but as the saying goes, it is better to be safe than sorry.

There are a number of practical personal and family safety products or devices that can protect any individual and their families. Make sure to thoroughly research your options to find the right product for you. Many women already carry pepper spray in their purse. Pepper spray is perhaps the most well known safety device. When sprayed in the face of an attacker, it will cause the eyes to swell shut, will make breathing difficult, and will cause the attacker pain for approximately 20 - 30 minutes. This allows you plenty of time to get away and possibly enough time to lead the proper authorities to the attacker.

Stun guns are also a viable option to protect yourself with. Stun guns send electric shocks to aggressors so that they are not permanently harmed, but are stunned long enough for you to safely get away. These can easily be hidden and disguised in a purse or bag. In fact, stun guns can now even be found in a lipstick case. This can help any woman easily hide her stun gun, while still having a reliable personal safety device with her at all times. Tasers are similar to stun guns and have almost 100% effectiveness rating.

Many women also carry whistles in their purse. Whistles can be attached by keychains or can be purchased in different colors to ensure that you can easily find it in your purse. There are some that you do not even have to blow into, just hold a button down and the whistle blows for as long as you hold the button.

If you decide to purchase a personal safety device to protect yourself and / or your family, make sure to find out what your state's laws are to ensure that you are within your state's regulations. It is important that these devices are only handled by adults and are kept out of the reach of children. Also make sure that you know how to properly use your new device to protect yourself. There are books, videos, and classes available to teach any adult how to properly use their device.
