subject: Buying And Using Vinyl Tarps [print this page]

Tarps come in handy around the house, the yard, and even for recreation. They are affordable, come in a wide variety of sizes and colors and even materials to suit just about any need.

One of the most popular uses is for camping and outdoor recreation. Campers have been using them for years to help provide protection to tents and campsites during bad weather. They are also commonly used to cover items that won't fit into the tent itself, such as coolers or even grills, protecting them from small animals who steal food from campers, and bad weather that can ruin just about anything.

At home a tarp can be used to cover wood that needs to be kept dry for the fireplace. These don't need to be terribly thick, they just need to be waterproof. Vinyl is the usual choice because it's not only waterproof but it's easy to clean, and keeping it clean is important to keep away insects and small rodents that try to make their homes inside warm, dry piles of wood.

The vinyl tarps are also used to cover cargo that is carried on top of a car, perhaps during moving or heading out on vacation. Not only will the tarp protect the items being carried from getting wet, dirty or even sun damaged, but some tarps such as those made of mesh and stretchable fabrics can help keep items tightly secured during transport.

Many of the newer light trucks and SUVs come with a factory installed tarp in the back, made of a stretchable mesh fabric that is fabulous for placing over anything you want to carry without having it bouncing all over the rear compartment. Grocery bags can easily be held in place with these tarps, preventing breakage and spillage of any type.

Depending on its use, vinyl tarps can be found in any large mass retailer, sports retailer or stores that specialize in boating or camping equipment.
