Sisters Tammy and Susie Trimble came up with a brand new and unique idea when they wrote The 100 Calorie Diet Book back in 2007. Even though their idea wasn't to eat snacks in the 100-calorie increments, top food producing companies jumped on the bandwagon, and the new and exciting 100-calorie snacks idea was born.
Soon, every time we went to the market, there on the shelves were snacks in the 100-calorie packs ranging from chips to cupcakes.
Major food companies like Nabisco, Chops Ahoy, Hostess, Sally's, Trader Joes, Hershey's, Honey Maid, Kudos, Lance, Nutter Butter, Oreo, Planters, Sun Chips, Twizzlers, Wheat Thins and Ritz were making the 100 Calorie snacks, and they are very popular with the public. A lot of consumers are buying the 100-calorie snacks in a variety of forms.
Why are the 100-calorie snacks and foods so popular with consumers? One of the reasons is that you feel you are in control of the calories you are consuming if you know that they are pre-measured and packaged in the 100-calorie packs. This type of eating gives you peace of mind in that after you have consumed the pack, you won't keep consuming the chips or whatever you are eating, thereby, you know you have only consumed 100 calories at the time you have eaten the whole pack.

Some of our popular magazines also jumped on the bandwagon for these 100-calorie snacks. Good Housekeeping came out with an article called, "Best Snacks 100 Calories or Less. Inside the article there are lists of fruits and snacks for 100 calories or less. Also joining the 100-calorie snack and diet explosion was the magazine, Women's Health. Women's Health Magazine has an interesting test called the 100-calorie test. When you take the test, it gives you two choices of foods and one of them contains exactly 100 calories. If you would like to take this test, go to the Women's Health Magazine site (Google Women's Health Magazine) and type in 100 calorie. This will bring up the test. One of the test items was Hershey's Chocolate Kisses. I was surprised to find that 5 kisses were 100 calories. Also I learned that 8 shrimp with 2 Tablespoons of cocktail sauce were 100 calories, so this is a very informing and interesting test to take.
Also gaining more in popularity is the concept of the 100-calorie meals. The 100 Calorie Diet Book by Tammy and Susie Trimble is based on eating your meals in 100-calorie increments. Now this doesn't mean you are going to eat a 100-calorie meal for lunch but rather eat a good nutritious meal with foods measured in the 100-calorie increments as stated clearly in the book. The only way we can lose weight successfully is to cut down on the portion size of our foods and expend more energy by exercising daily. Learning how to eat by measuring ours foods for each meal and counting the calories in these foods for a total intake of the amount of calories we need to eat each day to reach our weight goals is getting to be the most popular way of dieting today.
