subject: Keeping Those Pearly Teeth Straight [print this page]

It used to be the twelve to fifteen year olds all wore braces. We have four kids and all four wore braces. We hold the orthodontic record for longest braces on by our oldest son who never seemed to have time to go to his appointments. The office would call the night before, I would remind him at breakfast and by dinner they were calling wondering where he was. It got pretty embarrassing, but over four years later he finally got them off and now has straight, white teeth. After spending so much time and money on the kids teeth my husband has decided it is his turn. With Invasilign in Arlington, Washington or Fairfax it is easy to find an orthodontist near you who specialized in adult care. It is becoming so common that people hardly even notice the people in the office wearing braces and for some reason, maybe responsibility, adults seem to have their braces or Invasilign on shorter than their teenage counterparts. Why not have straight teeth? Your smile says a lot about you and adds to your confident level.

After you have visited with your orthodontist for a number of visits your teeth are straight and beautiful, it is time to whiten them. This can be done a number of ways either with profession trays and bleach or over-the-counter whitening strips. The over-the-counter ones are much cheaper but have to be repeated every six months or so. The professional whiteners will cost more upfront but may not ever have to be repeated. You can choose your strength of bleach so the trays are either worn for thirty minutes, an hour or over night. We got trays for our fifteen year old and he couldn't handle the stronger bleaches and wears his overnight. Business gatherings can be awkward if you don't feel confident with your smile, too many years of coffee, tobacco, blue berries or just life can leave teeth stained and discolored, it doesn't take much to remove the discolorant.

Why not have the straight, white teeth of movie stars? It is your turn, you have procrastinated long enough. There is no age moratorium on looking your best. Technology is amazing, the process are shorter and the results last forever, if you have always wanted straight teeth wait no longer, join the adults who wear braces and find a teenage kid and race them to completion. Chances are you will win. The desire for straight, white teeth is ageless.
