The Sink: A ring that falls down the drain is usually one that will never be seen again. A partially clogged drain can typically help you more than it will ever hurt, in this case. The best thing to do is turn off the water and call your plumber. They can then take off the U-shaped part of the pipe leading into the wall to see if its resting in there.
The Beach: By far the worst place to lose a ring, the beach means that your precious jewelry is either in the sand or in the water. Sand makes finding a ring nearly impossible even with the help of a metal detector. It is much more likely that someone else will stumble across the ring before you do. The water presents a higher opportunity for ring recovery but can consume hours and hours of time. Chances of finding a ring on the ocean floor are much higher than that of a lake because the water is more transparent. However, the tide might take your jewelry out to sea before you even get a chance to realize its gone.
Anywhere With Snow: Loosing a ring in light snow makes it very difficult to find. Waiting for spring can be an option, but dont count on the ring being there when the snow melts. Try blasting the area with hot water. Use a hose or an intense squirt gun to spray boiling water over the snow to melt it.
