subject: How To Prepare To Lose Weight and Keep It Off! [print this page]

Aren't you sick and tired of saying "I am going to start my new diet come Monday"... And then Monday comes and you are eating a muffin for breakfast or plowing down at the local buffet for lunch? Here's the thing; if you are truly motivated to lose the weight you need to lose, then you will simply not wait until the next available Monday to begin; you will start right then and there by putting down that last slice of pizza and picking up an apple instead.

One of the biggest pitfalls of starting a new diet is that people are not 100% psychologically ready. Without a doubt, not being ready in your mind will equate to not being ready physically and this one seemingly small fact will derail your weight loss goals every single time. So,how do you get there? How do you become psychologically ready before you swear off carbs or fat and trade them in for lean proteins and vegetables? It's rather easy; you lose the weight in your mind first!

Think about the last time you were at your goal weight, or the last time you were happy with your weight. How did that time make you feel? What good memories do you have that attach to that time? In seriously sitting down and thinking about these times, you are releasing endorphins in your brain that signal "happiness" and "good times". Just in thinking about the old times at a healthy weight, you are taking one small step towards getting your mind ready for the upcoming battle we all love to call weight loss.

After thinking about the past, incorporate the present and the future into it. Take a look at yourself right now and imagine feeling the way you did when you were healthier and for all intensive purposes, better looking. How would it make your day-to-day better? How would others who are in your life right now respond to you differently? How much more energy would you have? How much longer could you live if you just lost the weight you need to lose to be healthier? A good start would be to make a journal of how you are feeling when it comes to weight loss and then go back and re read your entries and digest them. Are you the kind of person who puts off weight loss because you are scared it's not going to work and if it doesn't, then you have no day dream of exercising and eating right to fall back on? Are you the kind of person who eats for emotional reasons? Many people are and if that is you, you first need to overcome those emotional hindrances before you attempt to lose weight. Keeping a journal will help you to realize what exactly is holding you back and then give you the starting point for fixing those things.

Weight loss is a process; and it's not just a process of eating right and exercising. It is a process of getting your mind on the same page as your body and sticking to your plan. You need to make absolute sure you are ready to do what needs to be done to extend your life and make it better while it lasts, prior to beginning a new regimen or else, you will undoubtedly fail. This is one instance where the saying "mind over matter" really counts because unfortunately, most people can't shed 50 or 100 pounds on a whim.

Regardless of what your weight loss goals are, make sure they are realistic, then make a plan that tailors to those goals . Last but not least, if there is anything you are going to remember, make it this: the weight did not get there overnight and you are not going to lose it overnight. It is a rather cliche saying, but it is truth nonetheless. Hard work and a true psychological commitmentare what it takes.
