subject: How to Delegate your Wedding Planning [print this page]

Every bride will have dreamed of their perfect wedding day probably since childhood, but it is not until they actually become engaged and begin their wedding planning that the sheer scale of the task becomes obvious. For the average wedding, planning everything required is a far bigger job than one bride can do on their own.

The ability to delegate some of the wedding planning tasks to others can be difficult for many brides to undertake, but it will make the planning phase easier. Once you announce your engagement you will no doubt be bombarded by offers of help and advice on how to achieve your perfect wedding day. When you have set the wedding date and booked your ceremony is the time to consider those offers and assign tasks to various people.

Think about who would be best suited to a certain task. If someone has contacts which could be useful to you such as car hire, photographers or DJ's then ask them to enquire about prices and packages for you. Do you know someone who could make something for your wedding? Such as the wedding stationery, cake or even wedding attire. Or maybe you know someone who is a professional photographer or wedding DJ. Make use of people around you who possess skills or knowledge which could be of benefit to you it could also save you money!

Although you may want to handle everything yourself just to ensure all is absolutely perfect, there are plenty of tasks which you could delegate to others. For instance, your groom can organize the wedding suits for himself and his groomsmen, book the entertainment and the car hire. Your chief bridesmaid can help organize the other bridesmaids for dress fittings and help make the wedding favors; and ask the best man to collect the wedding flowers and wedding cake.

Your mom and mother in law will probably want to help with the wedding planning too. Ask them to do things such as ensuring the venues are decorated before the wedding day, sending out the wedding invitations and organizing the rehearsal dinner. You could also ask them to field calls and enquiries from guests asking for more information or the gift registry. Ask your dad to organize the drinks order for the reception and help your groom put together a playlist for the wedding music.

For every task you do delegate ensure the person you give it to knows what you want and has all the information you can provide them with. Liaise with them regularly to ensure everything is ok and proceeding as you want.
