subject: Five things to knit for a baby [print this page]

If you've recently had a baby or you've just become a grandmother, have you considered knitting for them? Baby's need warm clothes and toys, and knitting patterns can help you give them exactly that. Here are five items that you could knit...

1. Hats and scarves - keeping the warmth in means keeping your child's head, ears and neck covered and cosy. A hat is the perfect way to help them remain warm, while a scarf will ensure they won't catch a chill. Plus, with a wide range of patterns and colours to choose from, you can have a lot of fun in the process.

2. Gloves and socks - next on the list of things to keep warm are your little one's hands and feet. In fact, why not try and knit them some mittens?

3. Jumpers - children need plenty of jumpers, which can be expensive to get in the shops. Therefore, knitting them a couple of jumpers for cold winter months could save you a fortune.

4. Blankets - Every baby needs a comfort blanket or two, so why not knit one for a truly personal gift. Imagine one day when they're older, being able to tell them that the thing they carried round everywhere was made by you!

5. Toys - Every child needs toys and there's not more personal a toy than one made my a family relative. They'll treasure it and it's not as difficult to knit as you may think if using knitting patterns.

There are plenty more items when it comes to knitting for a baby, of course, especially with the help of knitting patterns, so why not start today?
