subject: Lifting Weights To Lose Belly Fat This Will Shock You [print this page] There are numerous reports you see from some trainers and in magazines saying that you need to lift light weights to burn body fat and get lean. This couldnt be further from the truth, in fact its complete b.s. Reason being is because there is no physiological basis for this information.
Look at a textbook and youll see what I mean.
When you start a set of lets say bicep curls, there are many factors that allow you to lift that weight. These different factors are called energy systems. The first part of the sequence used is the phosphagen system. This gives you a quick burst of energy but only lasts for a few seconds.
Next comes the ATP PC system. Have you ever heard of creatine? This is what it is and its found in your body. This energy system lasts up to 15 seconds but is dependent on many individual factors. After this energy system is depleted, next up is anaerobic glycolysis. This system utilizes glycogen within the muscle cell to perform physical activity. No where here is body fat taken and used to fuel muscular activity. Its too big of a compound for your body to break down right away and use for fuel.
What you need to do is perform heavy weights when you are trying to lose weight. The reason being is because the heavy weights will force your body to hold on to the muscle mass that it already has. When you are low on calories, the body is going to start breaking down fat and possibly muscle to fuel daily activities. By lifting heavy, it will force your body to hold on to the muscle mass and use more fat for fuel.
Also, if you are a female, do not worry about getting big muscles. You wont because you do not produce as much testosterone as a male.
